e-GIF
In November 2000 the NHS Standards Board formally adopted the Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF). At the highest level e-GIF has been shaped by four key policy decisions:
- Alignment with the internet
- Adoption of XML
- A web browser as the user interface
- Using metadata for content management
CSW has supported the drive to introduce open standards technology into e-government since 1998, when we deployed the first of our XML-based demonstration systems for the management of health records.
Our Case Notes product for shared care records management and KMS product for content and knowledge management have been designed from the outset to use the standards for open government mandated by the Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) published by the Cabinet Office eGU (previously known as the Office of the e-Envoy).
Members of CSW staff have been involved with the e-GIF since the early stages of its development and adoption, and CSW has a strong track record of advising and supporting a range of Government organizations in developing interoperability standards and generally adapting to e-GIF requirements.
